The Research Center for Information Technology
at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (FZI) is
an independent non-profit institution for applica-
tion research and technology transfer in the field
of computer science. Its object is to make the
latest academic findings in information technol-
ogy available for companies and public institu-
tions. In cooperation projects and on behalf of its
partners, FZI produces prototypes of concepts,
software, hardware and system solutions. With
its FZI House of Living Labs, the FZI has a suita-
ble research environment for practical research.
In the field of electric mobility, the FZI research-
es, develops and evaluates mobility concepts
and functions for electrically powered vehicles.
This includes methods targeting range optimisa-
tion, integrated mobility concepts for tomorrow
and the integration of (for example, fee-based)
future e-mobility concepts into the transport and
energy infrastructure.
The FZI has a specially customised electric vehi-
cle which, in addition to innovative drive compo-
nents, features a comprehensive, fully accessi-
ble energy management system. This allows the
development of new drive, operating and recu-
peration strategies.
In addition, a mobility platform is available for
integrated and local e-mobility and a building
energy management system for the optimal
planning of electric vehicle charging operations.
