Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are important links in the automotive value-added chain in Germany. With a range of programmes, the Federal Government and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg help strengthen innovation in SMBs in the field of sustainable mobility solutions.
The Central Innovation Program SMB (Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand – ZIM) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) funds innovative technology projects of SMBs in all branches and technological sectors. Support is available for research and development projects in individual companies as well as for project collaborations involving research facilities and cooperation networks with close ties to the economy. More information about funding possibilities is available on the Central Innovation Program SMB (ZIM) website.
In the funding initiative for innovative SMBs (Förderinitiative KMU-innovativ) support is available from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for small and medium-sized businesses with excellent project ideas in various fields. SMBs are pioneers of technological progress, and the program helps simplify their access to funding. Here, funding for information and communication technologies focuses specifically on research and development projects in the fields of automotive electronics, battery technology, and overall vehicle concepts for electric mobility. More information can be found on the BMBF website.
The State of Baden-Wuerttemberg is also involved and has its own funding programme to support the innovative ideas of small and medium-sized businesses. If conditions are met, businesses in Baden-Wuerttemberg can receive funding for the planning, development and implementation of new products or services, or even their improvement. With the “Innovation voucher B Hightech” (Innovationsgutschein B Hightech) the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Baden-Wuerttemberg provides a funding tool specifically for innovative ideas regarding sustainable mobility and in the field of information and communication technology. Potentially, 20,000 euros in grants for expenditures eligible for funding is available through the innovation voucher B Hightech.
The chambers of commerce and industry (CCI) in Baden-Wuerttemberg provide the necessary framework for the successful transfer of knowledge and technology between the economic and scientific sectors. With their technology transfer specialists, the search portal “TOP Science” (TOP-Wissenschaft), and also the “Innovation alliance for the Karlsruhe TechnologyRegion” (Innovationsallianz für die TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe), the CCIs connect scientific partners with businesses to collaborate on innovative projects. With initial one-on-one consultations and information events the CCIs also provide information to answer the many questions related to the area of innovative projects as a whole (e.g. CE marking, funding programmes for research and development, and innovation management).
