The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport invites representatives from politics, business, associations and civil society to keynote speeches and discussions to the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union in Brussels. The focus will be on issues relating to the nationwide e-truck charging infrastructure.
On 20 March 2024, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport is inviting representatives from politics, business, associations and civil society to the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union in Brussels to discuss the nationwide usability of heavy commercial vehicles and a needs-based network of charging infrastructure. Participants can look forward to keynote speeches and a panel discussion on the following questions: How can we succeed in establishing the necessary charging infrastructure quickly, efficiently and in line with demand? Where are the bottlenecks and challenges? How can the European Union support the Member States and regions in this task? What solutions can the regions implement independently? Register here.
Baden-Württemberg is a pioneer region for sustainable and modern mobility. As the cradle of the automobile and the bicycle and one of the most important regions for the automotive industry in Europe, the transformation towards alternative drive systems in particular plays a decisive role for the state.
The electrification of vehicles is a crucial prerequisite for achieving climate protection targets in the transport sector. We are currently still at the beginning of the necessary transformation process for heavy goods vehicles. In the coming years, however, the electrification of (heavy) commercial vehicles will play a decisive role on the road to climate neutrality. The first production-ready battery-electric heavy commercial vehicles will be available in just a few months and are urgently needed on the market.
However, a needs-based network of charging infrastructure must be provided quickly to ensure that the vehicles can be used across the board. With the adoption of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), the European Union has taken an important first step towards establishing a nationwide charging network. According to current analyses, however, this foundation stone will not nearly be enough to meet the demand for charging infrastructure.
