Baden-Württemberg zeigt H2-Aktivitäten in Spanien

The Congreso Nacional de Hidrógeno Verde, the Spanish hydrogen event of the year from 4th to 6th February 2025, with a focus on green hydrogen, highlights the importance of European cooperation.

The climate and energy partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Andalusia was strengthened at the end of January with a joint action plan. The use of hydrogen is essential for this, as the congress in Huelva shows. In addition to the exchange of expertise and the expansion of European business contacts, political goals were also communicated. Juanma Moreno, Andalusian Prime Minister, and Pilar Miranda, Mayor of Huelva, emphasised the important role of green hydrogen in defossilisation and the associated need for renewable energies.  In dialogue with Jorge Paradela, the Minister of Energy, Industry and Mining of the Regional Government of Andalusia, it was confirmed that innovative H2 technologies are the basis for the ramp-up of a hydrogen economy. Cooperation between European companies is key to expanding industrial value creation in Europe and driving forward defossilisation in the long term.

BW activities at the Spanish hydrogen congress

A team from e-mobil BW provided information about Baden-Württemberg's hydrogen activities in Huelva and exchanged ideas with international H2 experts. Members of the Cluster Fuel Cell BW presented innovative technical solutions at the joint stand of Baden-Württemberg - from electrolysis (EBZ Group) and fuel cell stacks (EKPO) to compressors (Mehrer Compression GmbH), water treatment systems (Herco Wassertechnik GmbH) and valves (Goetze KG Armaturen). The H2 technologies from Baden-Württemberg also fit in with the Andalusian plans to significantly increase the production of green hydrogen.

Andalusia invests 2.2 billion euros in green hydrogen

The President of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, emphasised at the congress that Andalusia has set itself the goal of producing a third of Spain's green hydrogen by 2030. This is a great opportunity for Baden-Württemberg to import green hydrogen from Spain. Moreno emphasised that Andalusia already produces 14.5 gigawatts of renewable energy - an ideal prerequisite. These are to be expanded for the new production of green hydrogen and a further 2.2 billion euros invested. Together with biogas, hydrogen should ensure that Andalusia achieves energy sovereignty at both regional and European level.

A total of around 1,200 international participants are taking part in the congress, including more than 400 companies and representatives from 20 regional and industry associations.
